Kellner is moderator at COP 17
Prof Klaus Kellner of the School of Environmental Sciences and Development at the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University fulfilled an important role at the Climate Summit, COP17, in Durban.
Kellner was invited to act as moderator during Land Day 5 on the deterioration of the field and the impact of climate change. Land Day 5 is aimed at getting policy makers to focus on the importance thereof to combat desertification. This is a result of the tenth sitting of the Conference of Parties (COP 10) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) that was held in South Korea recently. Kellner is the chairman of the Bureau of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST) of the UNCCD and he also attended this Convention.
Kellner acted as moderator during the summary and close of the sessions on the combating of desertification.
Several ministers and executive secretaries (heads) of the three main conventions of the world attended this session.
